National Police Week 2026

Every year the week that May 15th falls on is designated as a time to honor the brave survivors and supporters of law enforcement, worldwide. During this time, countless police officers from all over the country and the world come to Washington, DC to honor officers that have given their lives in the line of duty and engage with others who share a common brotherhood.

National Police Week began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation declaring May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week surrounding it as National Police Week. Since then, the program has grown to include nearly 40,000 participants who travel to Washington, DC to participate in various receptions and memorial services. The National Peach Officers’ Memorial Service is one very significant event that includes candlelight vigils and seminars and is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police.
